Trudging Through the Slump

Due to my health being all over the place, I’ve been in a bit of a sewing slump. But I’ve been working through it, getting orders done and working on a few small things.

I finished a bra that I had made with a modified version of my standard pattern for myself. This one is more of a plunge style and I narrowed the bridge a bit. But I forgot to add a little bit of width to the sides from taking width out of the bridge and also to account for the not so stretchy stretch lace that I used for the full bra. So it’s a little too snug for me to wear; I can get it on, but it’s not comfortable at all especially since I like a slightly looser band. Plus I used the underwires I had sitting in my drawer since I first started making bras for myself and before I really gauged which wire size was right for me and my shape. So the underwire is a size 30, which should fit the size 30 B bra (which is my size) but I need a 32 wire because my breast root is a bit wider than a 30 wire accounts for.

So all in all, I have a pretty new bra that I made in an evening, but can’t wear it. Oh well. It’s up in the shop but I’m not very hopefully of it selling due to the tiny size that it is.

I also whipped up a quick little thong as a model to show to a potential customer. It’s pretty cute and I hadn’t actually made one with the fold over elastic for the shop, it’s mainly been either stretch lace edging or picot underwear elastic. But I like the look and will be making more for the shop in the near future.

Other than that, I have finished 2 orders: a classic Harley Quinn bra and a Slave Leia bra. I also managed to finish a pair of socks, which I might have talked about last week (using Badwolfgirlstudios yarn in the mermish colorway) but I have a picture this time! They’re gloriously soft and I can’t wait to wear them. I’ve been doing too many messy things (like baking) to feel comfortable wearing these and not ruining them. Hopefully I’ll be able to wear them soon though!

I finished the bright blue circle skirt that I’ve had cut out for a few weeks now. I can’t wait to get to making the top that I’d like to pair with it.

I finally got around to washing and blocking the socks I made for my fiance, which I had knit quite a while before we got engaged. Haha oops, but the good thing is that they’re ready for him to wear now. And while I was at it, I washed and blocked my Tennessee souvenir shawl, so now the lace is more open and the picot bind off is actually visible. I can’t wait to wear it in the fall! I love the color of it.

New cast on! I started a big project for my fiance for Christmas. I’d been thinking about it for a while and bought all the yarn for it, so I finally got around to purchasing the pattern and casting on. It’s so exciting and I hope he loves it! I’m making the Drangey Pullover by Stephen West in a dark navy that looks almost black for the main color and a bright turquoise blue for the contrast. It’s a little hard to photograph at this point because it’s grown considerably and is now bunched up on the needles. But I’m nearly done with the yoke part, so I’m assuming the progress on it will slow down quite a bit as it turns to just solid dark colored yarn.

I’m in a bit of a bra making mood, so I may whip up a few new ones this week. I have quite a bit of fabric in my stash to choose from and I’ve definitely got my eye on one in particular. I’ll give you a little hint: it’ll be floral and lace with rich colors.

What projects are you most looking forward to working on next?

#mmmay17 last full week recap!

Lots of repeats this week, but that just shows me the things I’ve made and love and obviously need to make more of!

SO here’s the recap:

Monday: Maroon/Mulberry Wren Dress in ITY knit from fabric.com

Tuesday: Cropped plantain tee with cap sleeves and vneck in a rayon knit from fabric.com

Wednesday: Short sleeved Hemlock tee in a periwinkle lightweight sweater knit that I got for free from a Church destash and a me made bra

Thursday: Moneta Crop top out of the same periwinkle sweater knit

Friday: Me made undies

Saturday: me made bra

Sunday: Seafoam plantain tee with vneck in a rayon knit from fabric.com

So a pretty successful week. I’ve finished a lot of sewing, finished knitting a shawl, and started a new shawl and am nearly finished with a pair of socks I’ve been knitting.

I’ve started my Sew Over It Mia Jeans shorts in a charcoal ponte roma knit. I just need to hem them and make a button hole and stitch the button on. They’re just as I wanted them to be and are definitely a much better fitting version of the rtw ones that I loved. I’ll post more in depth about the pattern and the shorts once they’re finished.

How are you all feeling about me made may?

#mmmay17 Days 26 & 27 All The Finished Projects

So I didn’t get around to writing up a blog post yesterday because I was too busy knitting on my shawl. Which I did finish!

Yesterday I decided to finally show you guys my colette moneta dress pattern as a crop top. I’m not 100% on the fit of the moneta bodice pattern yet, I think I need to make a few adjustments, but I’m still trying to figure out just what needs adjusting. There’s a lot of drag lines around the armhole area. I know I need to make the armhole bigger, that’s pretty standard for me (it’s alright as is, but I like it looser and plan to layer this over dresses, so I’d need a bit of extra room so I don’t have 2 layers of sleeves bunched up into my armpit). If I make another layering crop top, I’ll also probably size up, because it was just too fitted over some of the dresses I tried to pair it with, so right now it’s just going to be a regular crop top.

I also felt a lot like Daphne from the scooby doo gang in this outfit, it’s definitely a very Daphne color palette and silhouette.

Today the only me made item I’m wearing is a me made bra, so nothing fancy. I just wanted to be comfy in some leggings and a loose top and didn’t feel like wearing my 2 standard go to handmade tops.

I finished 2 new undies for the shop (link , link). So I photographed them and listed them in the shop already.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I finished the shawl I was working on. I used Dream in Color Yarn in the Jilly Base (a superwash merino single ply) in the colorway Blue Fish. The pattern I used was Nurmilintu by Heidi Alander. This yarn was a dream to work with and the color is absolutely stunning, the pattern was everything I could have every wanted and will definitely be making more in the future. It’s a great one skein wonder project for fingering weight yarn sitting in your stash, and I finished it in about 6 days. It’s a nice size too, I would have preferred it to be a bit wider, but overall I’m still happy with it.

18556956_10154613300608441_127185574595269647_n18698015_10154629742993441_4673572081687140704_n18622609_10154629744388441_4481600143706128477_n

It still needs to be washed and blocked, it has a lovely little picot edge along the lace end. I also need to weave in the ends. But otherwise, all the knitting is done.

I looked at my planner to write all the items I finished this week in it, and realized I was almost out of space for this months finished objects! I guess I’ve been a lot more productive than I realized. But now I can add my shawl to the list and take up one more space.

I’ve finished taping together the Mia Jeans Pattern by Sew Over It and have the fabric washed and dried. So I’m hoping to start that project this weekend. I’m only going to make a shorts version to check the fit of the hips/butt area, but also because I need some more shorts!

Have you all been surprised by your own productivity this month? Are you feeling a creative overload of all the projects you want to make now that me made may is coming to a close?

MMMay17 Week 3 recap

This week was a little bit of a fail for me made may. Mainly because of my mental state. I did wear me made undies or bra everyday though. So that’s something I guess.

Today I grabbed for my woven hemlock tee, but I’m not a fan of the fit on me. It’s just a bit too tent like on me and I should have just finished the armhole seams with a zigzag stitch instead of doing a french seam, as the seam is a bit too bulky and sits oddly. So I took it off and swapped for my seafoam vneck plantain tee. I’m also wearing a me made bra today.

18557520_10154615571028441_8400994106274353019_n

Now for the recap:

Monday: only me made undies

Tuesday: Me made undies and bra with a periwinkle purple linden sweatshirt and rtw leggings.

Wednesday: Black and white polka dot sweetheart halter neck dress.

Thursday: me made bra. I attempted to wear a me made shirt (burda styles wrap front blouse in magenta chiffon), but wore it for a couple minutes tops and then switched to a rtw baggy tshirt and leggings.

Friday: Me made undies. rtw leggings and tshirt

Saturday: me made bra and undies and my marled blue sweater long sleeve plantain tee with rtw leggings

Sunday: me made bra, seafoam vneck plantain tee with rtw leggings and undies.

Overall, not terrible, especially given the circumstances. Hopefully this next week will be better. I’m thinking I’ll be wearing more dresses next week, but don’t take my word on it.

Things I’ve finished in the past week:

I finished 2 slave leia bras, 3 pairs of undies, and a nude mesh bra I’ll be finishing tonight (I just need to sew the clasps on and then sew the underwire in) So it was a pretty productive week for the shop.

I also finished my linden sweatshirt, moneta crop top, and woven hemlock sweatshirt. I also finished knitting the body of a sweater I’ve been working on (so not exactly a finished object, but it was a big deal and a big part of the project that’s not finished)

I have 2 more bras and a pair of undies to finish for the shop this week, and I have a new thong design I’d like to finish and add to the shop this week as well.

Sewing plans:

Cutting out another linden sweatshirt, cutting out some shorty peg leg leggings (testing some adjustments to the pattern), taping together the Mia Jeans pdf from the sew over it city break capsule ebook (and washing some fabric for it), work on knitting my souvenir socks and shawl that I started.

All in all I’ll be keeping myself busy over the next week. What are your sewing and knitting plans for the next week?

#mmmay17 week 2 overview/recap

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Recap of Week 2 of Me Made May.

Day 1: My blue wren dress, I love this pattern and need to get working on more, I have the fabric for 2 more and have another bit of fabric coming in for one more.

Day 2: A Stone Grey waffle/thermal knit long sleeve plantain tee with a me made bra and rtw leggings and undies. super simple and comfy, basically my daily uniform: comfy tee and leggings

Day 3: My red with white hearts sweetheart halter neck dress, very 50’s pinup girl. I love love love this pattern and have made 3 so far, I have many more planned.

Day 4: A light grey vneck short sleeved plantain tee with me made bra and undies and some rtw leggings. my daily uniform, as usual.

Day 5: Road trip! Periwinkle short sleeved hemlock tee with arm bands instead of sleeves, me made undies and rtw leggings.

Day 6: me made undies with rtw dress.

Day 7: seafoam plantain tee with me made undies and rtw leggings. my favorite me made top yet.

Overall not bad! There’s definitely a trend that I need to take advantage of and make some more clothing for my daily uniform. I’ll definitely be making more plantain tees, short and long sleeve hemlock tees, and I need to get my butt moving and make some leggings.

I have a few new shirts I’ve finished making during week 2 that I will most likely be wearing this week. I’ll mainly be working on etsy orders as I’ve got quite a pile to get through and ship out this week. I need to cut out some neck and arm bindings for some shirts I have mostly finished, so I may do that and get those done with week as well.

How has your me made may pledge been going? Is it harder than you thought? Have you discovered which patterns you reach for over and over again?

#mmmay17 2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back

The weather this may has really been throwing me for a loop. Most, if not all, of my me made items are lightweight or summery, but it’s been quite chilly lately. So I’ve been been wearing a sweatshirt over everything lately. Guess I know what I need to work on next!

In other news, Today I am wearing a sweetheart halter neck dress. I made this dress for Valentine’s Day dress this year, though of course it was far too cold to wear it then. But today I pulled it out again. It’s made from a quilting cotton that is red with little white hearts on it that look like polka dots unless you are close up.

This is the 3rd version of this pattern that I’ve made. I have fabric for a few more and plan to keep making them. They’re simple, quick to make, and effortlessly pretty. Plus they’re great for those cute quilting cottons out there. The halter neck is a bit of an issue sometimes though. I have chronic pain issues, mainly centered in my shoulders/upper back and neck area, so anything so much as leaning on there can cause a lot of pain. So I may have to alter it to make the halter into regular straps.

I ended up throwing my rtw snow white raglan sweatshirt on over it because it was in the very low 60’s today, so I was freezing! Otherwise I love this dress and how it looks, and my boyfriend loves how it fits and shows my figure as well!

I managed to get most of my dress for the wedding finished, I stalled out and didn’t end up finishing it today because when I tried it on…. I realized I didn’t like how it looked on me. I love the look of the dress as a whole, but it’s not me and the colors are very over powering on me. So I’m not sure if I’ll be wearing it or not. I still need to press the edges, hem it, and throw the bottons/button holes on at the top of the keyhole back.

18342680_10154584511823441_146987165336934139_n

It comes to exactly knee length as is, I’d like to hem it so it’s above the knee (like the red dress I wore today is) because I find it a much more flattering length on me. The lighting in the photo above really blows out the colors, they are VIBRANT and kind of in your face. and there is no break in the color, nothing to tone it down. So it’s a bit too much for me. Maybe that’s just today, maybe I’ll change my mind tomorrow. I don’t know. What do you all think? Is there anything I can do to make it more flattering or to break up or tone down the print a bit?

I have a back up dress, I was just hesitant to wear it because it’s a bit low cut, and it’s a southern very Christian, conservative wedding/family… So while it isn’t racy or over sexy on me, I can already tell I would get disapproving looks from people. But I might go with that one anyway as I’d feel more comfortable in that than in this overly vibrant dress. I’ll bring both and probably decide the day of, but still, I’m feel discouraged.

In other news, I’ve finished sewing the stretch lace on 2 thongs, so they’re ready to be worn. I almost finished my moneta crop top, but I decided it needed a neck band, so I still need to cut that out and stitch it on then it’ll be finished (I’m making it more of a vintage cropped sweater look) I have most of my knit hemlock sewn together, I just need to hem it and stitch do the top stitching on the neckband. And I baked some Chai Spiced Muffins for the trip this weekend, they came out a lot better than I thought they would.

18446896_10154584511793441_5827668275210399071_n

Tomorrow I’ll be finishing the dress regardless of what I think of it. I’ll also be cooking food to bring with me for the weekend. I have a TON of food allergies, so I have to prepare and pack all my food for the weekend (so friday-sunday). It’s a lot of work, but it beats being horrifically sick or hospitalized.
