Knitting Away

I haven’t been sewing nearly as much as I thought I would have over the past week. I did do a lot of Fall/Autumn wardrobe planning though. I’m starting to pair patterns I have that I’d like to wear this fall with fabric I have in my stash. I have a pretty good tentative list going, but I’d like to refine it and list it out in an order I’d like to get them done in. I know that I probably won’t do them exactly in that order, but at least it’s somewhere to start.

I’m planning:

  • 3 long sleeve Grainline Studio Linden sweatshirts, 2 in sweatshirt fleece (one black, one grey; given that I have enough fabric for that, I haven’t checked), one in sweater knit
  • 1 Sew Over It City Break Capsule Ebook Lola Coat (The Shorter version, but I’m going to add pockets) and I have some mystery fabric in my stash, it feels like a lightweight windbreaker fabric in black, so I’m going to test the pattern in that and use it as a wearable muslin.
  • 1 pair of Patterns 4 Pirates Peg Legs leggings, I have black athletic fabric for this. I need to get more fabric to make more leggings, just about all my rtw ones need replacing and I just busted through another pair this week :,(
  • 1 or 2 Seamwork Oslo Cardigans, I have some sweater knits for this
  • 1 Seamwork Wembley Cardigan, again in a sweater knit
  • 3 Button down shirts, I have some crepe chiffon that I’m going to use for wearable a muslin. I have various shirting fabric in my stash that I’ll use once I perfect the fit of the patterns
  • I’d also like some more Sew Over It City Break Capsule Ebook Mia Jeans, but I don’t have any more fabric in my stash for that.
  • Same goes for more tshirts, I need to pick up more fabric in order to make more
  • If I have the chance, I’d also like to make 2 blazers, a cropped one and a full length standard one. But those aren’t a priority

As you can see, it’s a lot of layering pieces mainly. Once the cold weather hits, I just throw an oversized sweatshirts on top of my baggy tshirt and leggings. So I’d like to look and feel a bit more put together and have nicer layering pieces. I’m hoping the button down shirts can also be used as a layering piece to throw on with a tshirt for something lighter than a sweater knit cardigan.

I’m also thinking about my knitting plans, I’m thinking about sweater knitting a lot. I have one started and just need to knit the sleeves and it’s finished, but I’m just not motivated to work on it, probably because the sleeve chart is confusing and doesn’t quite add up to where I left off when I separated the sleeves from the body. My probably is that most of the patterns I lean towards are fingering weight sweaters, which take forever and I lose motivation on working on it before it’s finished. However, I don’t have a sweaters quantity of worsted weight yarn in my stash to use, so I’d need to purchase some, and I’m on a really tight budget. So for now I might stick to shawl and sock knitting for myself and save up for some sweater quantities of yarn.

Speaking (or rather, writing) of sweater knitting. I’ve made significant progress on my Fiance’s sweater. I’ve finished the body and the bottom ribbing of the sweater and am almost halfway down the first sleeve. So that’s going really well and I should have it finished in plenty of time for Christmas. (I’ve made even more progress on the sleeve since I took this picture this morning!)

20708406_10154857179423441_9054171275907910368_n

I think I also mentioned that I wanted to knit a sweater for my cousins 6th birthday… Well I was almost at the point of separating the sleeves when I was told he doesn’t like anything that he has to put over his head…. So I’m ripping that sweater out now and have zero ideas as to what to do for his birthday. I hate cardigan knitting because I don’t like purling continuously, the motion hurts my hands. So I’m stumped! Any suggestions on what to make for a 6 year old boys birthday?

In other knitting news, I’ve been working on a pair of socks for a friend. She asked if I could make a pair of white ankle socks with a frilly top and I said sure. So I picked up the yarn this past weekend and cast on. I’m a little past the toes now, but it’s slow going as I’m using a light fingering weight yarn, so it’s teeny tiny itsy bitsy teeny weeny stitches. But I’m enjoying having a pair of socks to work on again.

Wedding Planning! I’ve managed to get a base idea of the different things I want for my wedding, like bridesmaid dresses and shoe colors and flowers for the decor and bouquet. I’m thinking about what I’ll do for my bridal shower dress, because of course I want to make that too. I’m thinking of something with lace applique too so I can get some extra practice for the dress itself. My parents have also paired with the Fiance’s parents and they’re planning an engagement party for us next month. So I’m debating if I have time to make something for that. I have some nice off white chiffon that I could make a button down out of, but I’m not sure yet. I kind of want a dress, but I’m lost as to what pattern or style I would do for it.

Jason helped put everything in perspective though about my need to have every detail planned out even before we start planning: I have the basics, I know what I need, and I won’t know the rest until we pick a venue when the time comes. So there’s no point in fretting over these things that I can’t finalize anyway. I have everything else for now and besides, we need to start looking for houses because we ARE moving first, wedding comes later. So I’m trying to calm down about it all and just focus on looking for houses in good neighborhoods and figuring out how to construct my wedding dress for when the time comes. I’m also looking at lace options that all match and pricing for the fabric to find the best deal, but I still think that’s a necessity for figuring out before the planning starts.

(We also went to the beach, finally, as you can see in the photos. It was gorgeous! We arrived to explore just before sunset and managed to catch some amazing photos)

So what is your favorite pattern or piece of clothing for fall?

Packing and Prepping

My boyfriend and I leave for California tomorrow. We will be there until the 25th, so I’m not sure what my posting schedule will be like while I’m there. But in the mean time I’ve been working on more projects.

I finished 2 pairs of leggings, using the Patterns 4 Pirates Peg Legs pattern with the contoured waistband. I had to take some length out of the leg and the waistband because they were clearly made for a much taller person than I (being only 5’0″ that isn’t that surprising).

The first pair is a black mystery knit that I found at a church destash for free. It’s nice and thick and has a similar feel to athletic leggings and has quite a bit of stretch in both directions. My second pair is a grey and black chevron print fabric I purchased not long ago from Denverfabrics.com, it’s a double knit 58% Polyester 30% Rayon 10% Nylon 2% Lycra blend. They feel very nice and thick, they have a good amount of stretch, though I almost feel like I should/could have sized up for this pair as there’s a bit of a wiggle dance to get them on over my hips.

19105616_10154686100928441_6337797775192822402_n

They feel nice on, but definitely feel closer to athletic/compression leggings due to the thickness and how fitted they are. I lined the front waistband with the same fabric and this might have been a mistake as it has made it thicker and less stretchy. I knew it would lessen the stretch some, but I guess I didn’t realize by how much.

So for my next pair, which I’ll be using a black athletic “performance” fabric from Joann’s. I think I’ll size up for those and take a bit more length off the leg around the knee area (As it’s a tad loose there) and a tad more off the height of the waistband since they still sit high on my waist.

I’ve spent the day packing and folding laundry. My boyfriend has decided he was going to get his hair cut and dyed blue and save packing all for tomorrow morning before we have to go to the airport for our flight. We have an evening flight, but still, that’s cutting it pretty close. My clothes are packed, I’m taking my favorite 2 handmade tshirts: my seafoam plantain and my purple hemlock; and my maroon wren dress, my charcoal high waist shorts from the Mia Jeans pattern, and some handmade undies and bras. Everything else is rtw.

I’m packing a pair of socks to knit on and my current shawl WIP, the Zostera shawl in Loops & threads woolike ice blue and denim blue. I plan to visit a local yarn shop while in California, so I may start something new while I’m there, or on the flight home.

What do you usually pack for vacations? Do you have a me made vacation capsule? If you did, what would you include in your vacation capsule wardrobe?

The Start of Preparations and a New Pair of Pants

This week has been more laid back and had more planning than actually doing. Though a lot still got done.

Last weekend, my boyfriend and I went strawberry picking. It’s become a yearly tradition for us. This year we picked just over 6 pounds worth, less than last year, but there were a lot more people there this year! Plus we went a tad later in the season, so there were less to choose from. But we still picked a lot of wonderful and flavorful strawberries. I’ve been looking up recipes to use them up while also snacking on them daily. I love going fruit picking, we are hoping to go blueberry picking next month, or when the boyfriend and I get back from California this month. We missed the blueberry season last year, so we are keen on getting there on time this year.

I’ve finished an order this week, a Harley Quinn bra and underwear set. I have another order cut out, but haven’t sewn it up yet, I’m hoping to get that done tomorrow. I’ve put my shop on vacation mode this week as well. My boyfriend and I leave for our vacation to California on Friday of next week, so I didn’t want any last minute orders coming in that I wouldn’t be able to get done on time.

18951510_10154669648243441_6014121320828744281_n

We will be in California until the 24th or 25th, I forget which day our flight home is at the moment, but I have it written down somewhere. And besides, my boyfriend has all that information and is in charge of making sure we are in the right places at the right times.

I also finished those Sew Over It Mia Jeans from the City Break Capsule Wardrobe Ebook. I used a black ponte roma fabric I purchased from Joann’s a while back. It’s gloriously soft and plush and has just enough stretch for them to be easy and comfortable. I would change a few things on my next pair for a better, more comfortable fit though.

18921930_10154669648113441_2165141209214618981_n

First, the changes I made to the pattern: I graded from a size 8 at the waist, to a size 10 at the hip (both on side seams and center front and back seams) I originally used the size 10 for the legs, but had to take them in, so next time I will grade back down to a size 8 for the legs. Also, the back leg pattern pieces are wider than the front leg pattern pieces, which seemed a little odd to me, but I haven’t made many pants and not any in a while. Next time I’ll narrow the back legs and add a little to the front legs, especially in the knees and just above them in the quads, because right now they pull a little too much when I bend my knee and bag out in the back of the knee. I also shortened the legs by a few inches, so they hit just the right length at the ankle for me, like they are meant to according to the pattern. I may also add a bit to the back rise, as they pull down a bit at the center back.

18952708_10154669647983441_8231059326410195829_n

Overall, I can definitely see myself making many of these. The pattern is great, the instructions are thorough and clear with many pictures, and they are quick and simple to make. There are only 5 pattern pieces, 6 including the pockets (which I skipped). They go together quick and I had these done within a day.

I’ve been working on a few other things as well. A grey bralette that will go in the shop. and I’m working on a new design, a black satin bra/bralette that I’m working out how I want it as I got.

I have been baking this week as well. As I mentioned earlier we picked a bunch of strawberries so I’ve been playing with recipes. My birthday is also on Sunday, so I’ve started prepping desserts for that. My boyfriend, his parents, and his sister and her husband will be celebrating with me on Sunday, we’ve planned a healthy dinner and desserts. I’ve decided on a nectarine and zucchini salad with herb pesto, a fruit and arugula salad (all kinds of fresh and dried fruit, arugula, cucumber, avocado, sunflower seeds, and blueberry or strawberry balsamic dressing), roasted vegetables, and some oven baked fries. For dessert I’m prepping classic strawberry shortcakes (so biscuits, coconut whipped cream, and sliced strawberries), coconut shortbread-strawberry-coconut bars (think homemade twix but with strawberry jam instead of caramel), chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate cookies (either by themselves or for whoopie pies).

I’m pretty excited. I had my boyfriend try the biscuits (which, as all of my recipes are, are gluten free, vegan, and grain free due to my allergies) and he liked them! I was shocked, expecting him to not like them, but he actually said he thought it was a good dough, I didn’t even have to ask him! So that’s very exciting. We’ve tried a lot of recipes and there have been many that don’t pass the boyfriend test and only very few that have. So it’s nice that I can possibly add another recipe to the tried and true pile.

This coming week will be prepping for the trip, packing, and enjoying time with people this weekend. My boyfriend and I will be going out to look at houses tomorrow. So hopefully we like the area because we are very seriously looking into moving there within the next year. It’s a cute little lake town north of where we currently live.

Now to try and pick what to pack and which knitting projects to bring with me for the trip. I have 2 shawls and a pair of socks on the needles right now (along with a sweater that’s kind of on hold at the moment) so I’m not sure which ones I’ll take and which I’ll leave. I also know we will be stopping at a yarn store while in California, so I need to decide if I want to prepare for that as well.

Do you have anything exciting happening in the next couple weeks?

Productivity

May was a surprisingly productive month for me. I finished a lot of orders for the shop as well as a few new things for the shop and quite a few things for myself.

18813300_10154651164263441_8739547541174638562_n

I don’t think June will be anywhere near as productive, just because I won’t be home for half of it.

In 2 weeks my boyfriend and I will be making our way to California for a vacation and VidCon. I’m nervous and anxious and excited. I know the boyfriend is very excited, he’s never been to California and he’s very excited for VidCon and meeting a lot of the people he’s been talking to online over the past year and a half. I’m not sure what to expect from the trip, but I’m just trying to be calm and excited about it. I assume we’ll spend most of the time wandering the area, going to downtown Disney and meeting up with people.

I’m planning on taking about 50% me made and 50% rtw clothing with me. In hot weather I tend to stick to dresses or leggings with chiffon tops. I’ll be taking my knitting, but I’m probably only going to take one pair of metal needles and any others will be bamboo, just in case they try to take my needles at the air port. I also know there is a yarn store about 2.5 miles from where we’ll be staying, so I know I’ll be picking up some souvenir yarn there!

As for this week. I finished my Platintain Tee tank top. I don’t know how I feel about it right now. I have been having a lot of bad body image days so I’m not loving how it looks on me. But it’s finished at least. I did my normal curved hem and I added armhole binding to finish the armholes. It looks nice on the table, but I’m not sure. Then again, it’s not my color, so that might also be swaying my opinion towards the negative.

18839006_10154651213358441_3020669186470610643_n

I finished a pair of socks that I started on monday evening, and they were off the needles by friday evening. I used Loops and Threads Woolike yarn in the Ice Blue colorway for the heels, toes, and cuffs, and I used the leftovers of my Knit Picks Felici yarn in the Slumber Party colorway. I had made my boyfriends mom a pair of socks with the felici for her birthday and had about 20 grams leftover, and knew I could probably squeeze a pair of shorty socks with contrasting heels/toes/cuffs out of it for myself. I love the felici yarn and as soon as they are back in stock I need to buy a ton of it.

18835549_10154651213238441_7954402284998116716_n

And I’m knitting away at my Wendy’s Fern Shawl, it’s getting there. I’m almost done with the 3rd garter section. I’ve also started another shawl, using the Woolike yarn from my socks, and I’ll be adding in the Woolike in Denim Blue as the contrasting color for the Zostera Shawl . This shawl is so pretty and so different from anything I’ve knitted before that I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I’m still on the first section, but I love the texture the stitch pattern is creating right now. It’s very… popcorny? I just keep saying “just one more repeat” whenever I pick this up to knit on.

I’m planning on casting on another pair of socks. probably another vanilla pair right now, but I haven’t decided. I have a crazy zaberball that I want to start, but I also have 2 other yarns caked up and ready to go that I want to use Mina’s NYC sock club patterns for. So I feel like I should save the vanilla crazy socks for the airplane ride, and work on a pair of the patterned socks right now.

What are your plans for this month?

So How Did Me Made May Go?

I think it went fantastically.

There were ups and downs and it made me a lot more conscious of what I was wearing/putting on my body and what I constantly reached for in my wardrobe.

I knew my gaps before I started, and I still agree with those, but I think I found a few more. My first gaps that I need to fill are: more comfy tshirts (preferably some darker colored ones, as all my me mades are light and almost all my rtw are dark), LEGGINGS (because I live in them, though that might change now with the finding of a new pattern this week…). The other gaps I found were: layering pieces, I really need some cardigans, cropped and regular length, and some sweaters to layer over my dresses, as well as more cool weather appropriate dresses. All of my dresses are for mid summer weather, they’re lightweight and either short sleeved or sleeveless.

I know if I were to do this challenge again in the winter, I’d have almost nothing to wear. So I do think that will be my next focus, once I get a few more warm weather items busted out (I’m looking at you shorts and tank tops and summer dresses!)

I also know that I need to find patterns that work with what’s in my fabric stash, I have a lot of wovens in my stash and hardly any knits. So I really need to figure out how to stash bust these wovens and actually wear them.

Most Worn From Me Made May 2017:

Me Made Bras and Undies, of course. But as far as actual clothes go here are the top 4:

  1. My Seafoam Rayon vneck Plantain tee, which I wore a total of 5 times this month
  2. My Periwinkle Short Sleeved Hemlock Tee in a purple sweater knit, I wore this a total of 3 times
  3. My Marled Blue Sweater Using the Plantain tee pattern, I wore this one 3 times as well.
  4. My Maroon Wren Dress, I wore this 2 times, and would have worn it more if the weather was a tad warmer.

So you can see the trend here of what I prefer to wear from day to day: tshirts

Right now I’m focusing on things I’d want to wear and take with me on vacation in a couple weeks. My boyfriend and I will be in California for 1 1/2 weeks. I know I’ll be packing my plantain tee, hemlock, and maroon wren dress, as mentioned above in my top 4. I’ll be taking the new shorts I just finished and I’m hoping to whip up a bunch more me made undies to take with me. I’ve been thinking about making myself another bra as well, so I might try to get that finished before the trip too.

Will You continue to wear me made items as often as you did during the challenge?

While I definitely think I’ll be wearing me made items a lot more than I was before me made may, I don’t think I’ll be wearing me mades every day. I am hoping to keep up with maybe 2 or 3 items a week.

What new goals do you have for your me made wardrobe now that this challenge is over?

I really want to swap out my entire underwear drawer with me made undies. I don’t think this is going to be too difficult due to undies being very quick to sew up. I also need to get rid of a lot of my rtw undies as they’re pretty old and ratty at this point. So my goal is to make a new pair for every pair I throw out (or, more realistically, throw out a pair for every pair I make haha).

Another goal I have is to be more conscious of what I wear from day to day and to not just go back to over sized men’s tshirts and leggings every day. I want to wear things that make me feel better about my body and not just hide my body. I’m hoping this will get easier as I make more items for myself, but right now I do have to make a conscious effort to not grab those comfy tees and leggings every morning.

Did Me Made May affect you in a way you weren’t expecting?

Yes. While making me more conscious of what I was wearing, it also made me more conscious of my body as well. I have gotten into the habit of hiding my body under my clothes, and that just wasn’t something I could do during this challenge. So it was hard for me to deal with but at the moment, I am feeling a bit better about my body, but it’s still very hard.

It also put into perspective how unrealistic my style goals were. While they weren’t crazy out there, I did find myself preferring comfort over style and my goal “Aesthetic” was more style and still comfortable, but not as much as what I like to wear. So will I be wearing jeans and button down shirts or nice blouses on a daily basis? Not any time in the near future! But I have learned to think more creatively about finding a middle ground. I have the Sew Over It City Break Capsule Ebook and have made a pair of shorts from the Mia Jeans Pattern and definitely plan to make a pair of full pants from them, so those I think are the perfect compromise between cute (but uncomfortable) jeans and my go to leggings. They’re stylish, but still extremely comfortable and actually flattering. As far as nice blouses go, I think I just need to go towards something looser and more casual, so I do want to make the Alex Shirt Pattern from that same Sew Over It Ebook, which is a very oversized button down shirt. I feel like styles like that and maybe the archer shirt and popover variation could be some good go to patterns for me, as they have a relaxed fit and should be comfortable, but also look a little more stylish than a baggy men’s tshirt. 😉

This also ended up being my most productive month creatively so far this year. I filled up the list space on my planner with all the finished items from this month. It was a very busy month for my etsy shop, and for myself as well, so it was shocking that I got so much finished with everything going on. My sewing machine was broken for almost the first 2 weeks of the month, then I was on a road trip and had to prep and pack for that, so that took up 4 days (one day to pack, 3 days for the trip), and the general social activity in my regular life, so half the time during the weekends we were out away from the house and so I wasn’t making anything then either. So it’s amazing how much I got done! I’m very proud of myself.

Overall, if you are interested in doing a challenge like this but aren’t sure if you can do it, I say just go for it. You won’t know until you try, and if you don’t meet your goal by the end, then you’ll have learned what you need to do for next time!

#mmmay17 the final stretch!

I didn’t get a photo of my outfit yesterday, but I did wear me made items. I wore my periwinkle purple short sleeve hemlock tee with a me made bra and some rtw undies and rtw galaxy leggings. My boyfriend and I went down to his sister and her husbands house for a very chill game and grill day. I haven’t been feeling all that well since saturday, I think I’m catching something as I’ve been overly warm, so I must be running a fever. So I just sat around and knit and chatted a bit.

Today I wore a me made bra, my marled sweater knit plantain tee. and some rtw leggings and undies.

18766093_10154640650918441_2589354720527013406_n

I finished my Tennessee souvenir socks. So now all of my Souvenir yarn (from that trip at least) has been used! It didn’t even have the change to be added to my stash. I’m very happy about that as I’m trying to use as much of my stash as possible this year. So the fact that I bought 2 skeins and they immediately were used is very satisfying.

18765748_10154640650913441_3261479836245920199_n
Tennessee socks and a peek at my galaxy leggings and a bit of my hemlock tee

I also managed to finish my Sew Over City Break Mia Jeans in charcoal ponte as shorts. I love them! They ended up a tad shorter than I wanted, but they’re still wearable for me. I made a size 10 and graded down to a size 8 in the waist and for the waistband. They fit pretty darn well. I cut out a second pair with the remaining fabric but I cut a straight size 8 so I can compare the fit. Once I figure out which size I like better I plan to make a full length skinny jean in some black ponte I have in my stash.

For these shorts, I still need to iron the waistband and the leg cuffs, as well as do some top stitching to the seams. But they’re basically finished and wearable at this point. The fit on these is pretty spot on to the measurements stated in the pattern. They are higher waisted on me because I am short, only 5’0″ so they sit higher than stated. Next time I think I’ll take the waist in a tad so it sits closer to my actual waist, as it’s a tad loose.

I definitely think these will be packed in my suitcase for my trip to California in a few weeks! I’ll probably be packing my hemlock tee, seafoam plantain tee, as well as my wren dresses and maybe my comic book sweetheart halter neck dress, along with some other rtw things.

I’ve started another pair of socks, I’m using the left over knit picks felici in the slumber party colorway and making myself a pair of shortie socks with contrasting heels, toes, and cuffs. I’m using Loops and Threads brand Woolike yarn in the Ice Blue colorway.

What me made items do you pack for vacations? Do you have any pattern recommendations for comfy travel wear?

#mmmay17 last full week recap!

Lots of repeats this week, but that just shows me the things I’ve made and love and obviously need to make more of!

SO here’s the recap:

Monday: Maroon/Mulberry Wren Dress in ITY knit from fabric.com

Tuesday: Cropped plantain tee with cap sleeves and vneck in a rayon knit from fabric.com

Wednesday: Short sleeved Hemlock tee in a periwinkle lightweight sweater knit that I got for free from a Church destash and a me made bra

Thursday: Moneta Crop top out of the same periwinkle sweater knit

Friday: Me made undies

Saturday: me made bra

Sunday: Seafoam plantain tee with vneck in a rayon knit from fabric.com

So a pretty successful week. I’ve finished a lot of sewing, finished knitting a shawl, and started a new shawl and am nearly finished with a pair of socks I’ve been knitting.

I’ve started my Sew Over It Mia Jeans shorts in a charcoal ponte roma knit. I just need to hem them and make a button hole and stitch the button on. They’re just as I wanted them to be and are definitely a much better fitting version of the rtw ones that I loved. I’ll post more in depth about the pattern and the shorts once they’re finished.

How are you all feeling about me made may?

#mmmay17 Days 26 & 27 All The Finished Projects

So I didn’t get around to writing up a blog post yesterday because I was too busy knitting on my shawl. Which I did finish!

Yesterday I decided to finally show you guys my colette moneta dress pattern as a crop top. I’m not 100% on the fit of the moneta bodice pattern yet, I think I need to make a few adjustments, but I’m still trying to figure out just what needs adjusting. There’s a lot of drag lines around the armhole area. I know I need to make the armhole bigger, that’s pretty standard for me (it’s alright as is, but I like it looser and plan to layer this over dresses, so I’d need a bit of extra room so I don’t have 2 layers of sleeves bunched up into my armpit). If I make another layering crop top, I’ll also probably size up, because it was just too fitted over some of the dresses I tried to pair it with, so right now it’s just going to be a regular crop top.

I also felt a lot like Daphne from the scooby doo gang in this outfit, it’s definitely a very Daphne color palette and silhouette.

Today the only me made item I’m wearing is a me made bra, so nothing fancy. I just wanted to be comfy in some leggings and a loose top and didn’t feel like wearing my 2 standard go to handmade tops.

18767660_10154632053058441_6618996876162352414_n

I finished 2 new undies for the shop (link , link). So I photographed them and listed them in the shop already.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I finished the shawl I was working on. I used Dream in Color Yarn in the Jilly Base (a superwash merino single ply) in the colorway Blue Fish. The pattern I used was Nurmilintu by Heidi Alander. This yarn was a dream to work with and the color is absolutely stunning, the pattern was everything I could have every wanted and will definitely be making more in the future. It’s a great one skein wonder project for fingering weight yarn sitting in your stash, and I finished it in about 6 days. It’s a nice size too, I would have preferred it to be a bit wider, but overall I’m still happy with it.

It still needs to be washed and blocked, it has a lovely little picot edge along the lace end. I also need to weave in the ends. But otherwise, all the knitting is done.

I looked at my planner to write all the items I finished this week in it, and realized I was almost out of space for this months finished objects! I guess I’ve been a lot more productive than I realized. But now I can add my shawl to the list and take up one more space.

I’ve finished taping together the Mia Jeans Pattern by Sew Over It and have the fabric washed and dried. So I’m hoping to start that project this weekend. I’m only going to make a shorts version to check the fit of the hips/butt area, but also because I need some more shorts!

Have you all been surprised by your own productivity this month? Are you feeling a creative overload of all the projects you want to make now that me made may is coming to a close?

Day 24: Repeats on repeats

Today’s outfit is a repeat that never got a full body picture because I wore it while traveling. So yay, you get to see what it really looks like. My short sleeved Hemlock tee in a lightweight periwinkle purple sweater knit, with a me made bra, and rtw panties and leggings.

I love this shirt, it’s super comfy but still can look nice if you find the right fabrics. I’d love to make a few more just like these, an oatmeal/tan color, a deep blue, a charcoal grey, stripes would be pretty too.

I followed the pattern as is, but for the sleeves I just cut bands the size of the armholes, folded them over and stitched them into the armhole. So it’s just like applying the neck band, just a wider piece of fabric.

I finished the last of my orders today and packaged it up to ship out in the morning. I also finished a new item for the shop, but haven’t taken pictures yet, I wanted to wait until I had better, natural, lighting. So look forward to seeing that tomorrow or at some point this weekend.

My boyfriend and I are enjoying the peace of having the house to ourselves. He’s been streaming on youtube every night and has expressed how much nicer it is not to have to close the door or worry about the sounds his parents make in the evenings (they are practically deaf and blast the tv while watching videos on their phones at full volume and then try to talk over all that noise to each other…) the main thing he has to worry about is the cat jumping up on his lap or table while streaming, but that’s not a huge deal. The loudest I get is my sewing machine at full speed, and I’m in the basement while he’s upstairs, so unless I bang pots and pans in the kitchen, none of it registers on his mic.

We (mainly him, due to me being unable to work) are saving for a house of our own, but we are still about a year away from being able to move out. So it’ll be interesting to see how things go when his parents are back this weekend.

Aside from that I’ve been keeping busy and getting quite a bit of work done on my shawl, I’m loving it so far and I hope I love it all the way through. I’d really like to find a shape of shawl that I like knitting. I’ve found that, while I like wearing triangle/bandanna shawls I absolutely have knitting them. I’ve made 2 and the second one is currently balled up in the bottom of a bin in the closet because I was so frustrated with it that I couldn’t stand looking at it for a while. I’m at about 100 stitches on the needle right now and I’m just under 1/2 way done, and the 100 stitches don’t feel nearly as long while knitting it as I thought they would, so that’s great.

I’m happy all my orders are finished because now I can focus on knitting more and sewing what I want. Hopefully I’ll get my mia jeans started next week.

Have you had many repeat items or whole outfits in your me made may so far?

Day 23 #mmmay17 Almost Over

The end of me made may is nearing very quickly. I’m not sure what this means for my outfits, if I’ll try to keep incorporating something me made daily, or if I’ll go back to mostly wearing rtw leggings and tshirt and only wearing my absolute favorite me made items.

Me Made May has made me much more intentional in my outfits and planning them out, which is something I haven’t done in years. I just throw on what makes me most comfortable that day. So it should be interesting. I think as I make more daily/lounge wear items, I’ll end up wearing more me made because of that.

Today I am wearing another plantain tee by deer and doe, this one has a vneck, cap sleeves, and is cropped in length. The rest of my outfit is rtw. I love these pants, but I don’t wear them nearly enough. They were a gift from my boyfriend a few birthdays ago. They’re super stretchy with an exposed golden zipper in front and it has elastic ruching at the back of the waist which makes them super comfy and probably the only high waist pants I’ll ever get to fit that I don’t make myself.

I also may not have gotten dressed until like 430pm. Oops.

I was working on an order to get it finished and packaged so the boyfriend could drop it off at the post office after he got home from work. So I got that done and then changed into this outfit.

I had a sewing “helper” today as well. A very whiny needy one, at that. She’s definitely feeling the “loneliness” in the house. She’s a shy scaredy cat, but she needs love and attention a lot throughout the day and needs to be around people for most of the day. She she was meowing at me all day, I got creative and set some of her toys up in the boyfriends dresser so she could entertain herself while I got work done.

I also got a good amount of knitting on my shawl done, I finished the first garter section and started the first lace section. I’m planning to finish the lace section tonight, it’s only 18 rows. So that’s cool. I’m very excited about it and can’t wait to see it progress. I’ve had major shawl fever lately. I’ve been wanting to make a lot of different ones, my main obsession right now is Stephen West’s Exploration Station. I have added his WestKnits BestKnits vol.1: Shawls to my birthday wishlist, and I’m hoping I’ll get it, and if not I’ll be buying it for myself. I’m really feeling the blue/grey/black color palette (but let’s be real, when am I not feeling that color palette?). So I really want to make it in varying shades of grey and maybe 2 different blues, a lighter one and a bright royal blue. I would honestly make every single shawl in that book, so I definitely think it’s worth it.

So, what are you looking forward to making soon? Do you have any big plans that are making you really excited?
